Québec already stands out for the quality of its environmental framework. With the strategy, the government will tighten up the framework to ensure that Québec more strongly reflects values of sustainable development and environmental protection.

The government will rehabilitate abandoned mine sites so that future generations are not left with a negative heritage. This work will be carried out until 2017. In addition, the government will adopt stricter standards for mining operations and mineral exploration. |
Lastly, in order to protect sites of exceptional geological diversity, the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune will designate 50 outstanding geological sites by 2013.
